Wildlife Management Lab

We are the Wildlife Management Lab. Our studies mainly focus on larger terrestrial mammals, specifically on: (1) physiology and behaviors of captive individuals; (2) population ecology, management and conservation of wild population; (3) methodology for wildlife science; and (4) human dimension on wildlife conservation. Recent research projects including: population sustainability and recovery of the endangered Taiwanese leopard cats, biology and population ecology of the Taiwanese pangolin, population growth, dispersal and management of the endangered sika deer in the Kenting National Park, larger mammal’s community structure, long-term monitoring and their landscape ecology in eastern Taiwan, and the local hunting knowledge and self-governance in hunting management in indigenous communities in Taiwan. Techniques, methods and equipment we use in these projects including: field observation, VHF radio-telemetry, GPS tracking, camera trapping, drone and unmanned aerial vehicle, molecular biology analysis and reproductive hormone quantitative analysis.
