Facilities and Research

Our institute has included biological laboratories, an animal specimen storage house, a laboratory of automated wildlife data collection, a wildlife product identification laboratory, Wildlife Management Information Center (Taber's Library), a 4-hectare Pingtung Rescue Center for Endangered Wild Animals (PTRC). Recently, an experimental wetland for the rehabilitation of a rare frog species is also transferred to our institute.

Pingtung Rescue Center for Endangered Wild Animals

The Rescue Center (PTRC), founded in 1993, occupies 4 hactares on NPUST campus. Over 1,000 animals from more than 100 species, most of which are abandoned or confiscated large-sized mammals have been raised. The animals in the center are frequently used as research topics in wildlife behavior, ecology, education or conservation medicine. A wildlife education platform, Shalin Life Center, are also founded in 2009 by various finacial sources.

Taber's Library

The Wildlife Management Information Center (WildMIC) was established with the donation of about 10,000 volumes from the lifetime collection of Dr. Richard D. Taber, a professor retired from University of Washington. More than 20,000 additional books and documents were also provided by our faculty and students to increase the compilation to over 30,000 volumes.
